Partners often discover that intensive therapy sessions offer an opportunity to fully engage in the therapeutic journey, enabling them to make significant progress in a shortened timeframe. In certain instances, the issues of relationship demand a more concentrated and focused approach to reach an effective resolution.

You might sense that there's a deeper need for change in your therapy sessions, a feeling that something could get better, you just haven’t got there yet. The 50-minute session model might leave you dissatisfied as you diligently put in the effort, but it seems there's not enough time. You’ll be amazed at the progress that can be made when you commit to a focused, retreat format, rather than spacing out your relational work over several months.

I use a science-based, structured process called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), considered the gold standard for couples therapy. Researchers have found that, with EFT therapy, 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery—and approximately 90% show significant improvements.

What is an EFT Intensive?

Emotionally Focused Therapy immersions provide couples with a fast route to the core issues. These sessions facilitate uninterrupted processing without the need to return to daily life and ‘put the healing on hold’ for a week or two between appointments. Instead, we meet for extended periods spanning 1-3 days.

Often intensives decrease overall treatment time because we don’t have to process what has happened between sessions but rather jump into the real problems and stay there until we find ways to identify and break the negative cycle.

How does it work?

Intensives take commitment to the work of healing, just because it’s a short time frame does not mean it is easier, probably the opposite is true! Before we meet together, you will each need to fill out assessments about your relationship that I will receive ahead of time to prepare for our work together. I will also recommend reading and resources if I feel that is helpful for you based on your assessments.

You will each have an individual session with me so that I can get a better understanding of how you show up in relationships based on your childhood and other contributing factors. This one-on-one session allows us to begin to build rapport which will be helpful during the intensive and will allow you space to speak freely about your thoughts and feelings on the relationship.

In our time spent together, our primary goal is to alleviate the distress you're experiencing while at the same time, creating a foundation for a fresh and meaningful connection with each other. We do this by identifying the cycle or patterns that define your relationship, finding the points of ‘stuckness’ for each of you, and then finding new ways to show up that lead towards a new, healthier relationship cycle.

As we conclude our time together, we'll collaborate on creating a roadmap for the next phase, whether it involves regular therapy sessions, arranging another immersive experience, or outlining individual actions to do on your own.

How do we know if this is right for us?

An EFT intensive could be the ideal choice for you if you hope to:

  • Understand the origins of your emotions, your coping mechanisms, and your communication patterns.

  • Understand the underlying emotions, coping strategies, and communication styles of your partner.

  • Discover effective methods of expressing love that your partner can receive in a meaningful way.

  • Witness a constructive transformation in your interpersonal dynamics.

  • Establish or rebuild a foundation of trust and stability within your relationship.

  • Experience a deep sense of mutual understanding and responsiveness from your partner regarding your needs.

  • The reimbursement for psychotherapy expenses often varies depending on the insurance provider. I am considered an out-of-network provider.

I recommend calling your insurance provider to determine what benefits are applicable for out-of-network providers and whether your insurance covers multiple hours of therapy in a single day or week.

You can call the customer service number listed on the back of your insurance card to obtain detailed information about your particular plan.

Please note that insurance companies typically require a diagnosis code to justify treatment. However, not all couples seeking therapy Intensives meet the criteria for a reimbursable diagnosis.

Upon request, I can provide you with a Superbill detailing all direct contact therapy services included in the program.

Feel free to reach out if you need further assistance navigating this process.

  • The exact scheduling details can be finalized at the time of booking, and are adaptable based on the progress of the Intensive. For instance, if longer breaks are necessary, adjustments can be made accordingly. • In a single-day intensive, I offer an accelerated learning experience for understanding the dynamics of your relationship. You'll quickly identify areas of ‘stuckness’ and learn to recognize the triggers that initiate these patterns, allowing for quicker intervention. Through guided exploration, you'll gain valuable insights into the underlying emotions and motivations driving your partner's behavior. Additionally, we'll collaborate on outlining actionable steps for ongoing relationship growth, including exploring further therapy options if necessary. This is a condensed yet comprehensive educational journey toward enhancing your relationship dynamics.

  • Participating in a 2 or 3-day Intensive can lead to significant transformation more efficiently than even a one-day intensive.

In addition to comprehending and learning to disrupt your relational patterns, you'll have the opportunity to delve even deeper into unmet attachment needs that may be present in your relationship. Moreover, you'll gain further insights into how your partner's actions often serve to protect themselves and/or the relationship. Establishing this deeper level of connection aids in fostering feelings of emotional closeness, safety, and stability.

Intensive sessions resemble embarking on a personal retreat. It's advisable to allocate time outside of sessions for unscheduled activities or solely for self-care endeavors such as physical activity, getting a massage, or staying in a hotel. This holistic approach enhances the overall effectiveness of the Intensive experience.

  • Either! I can accommodate one or the other, or a mixture of both.

*I can only see clients who are physically in the state of Maine.

  • To work with me, you need to be physically in Maine. If you're residing outside of Maine, you have the opportunity to travel to here for the Intensive. Many couples opt for this travel experience as it enriches the opportunity to immerse themselves solely in their relationship without any distractions. Maine is considered vacationland, after all!

  • Start by booking a complimentary 15-minute consultation, which will allow us to meet, gauge our connection, and determine if an Intensive is the right choice for your relationship.

If it aligns well, we'll proceed to schedule your Intensive, and I'll provide you with materials to be completed within a week of booking.
